St. Beatus Caves

Caves of St. Beatus, are located near the town of Interlaken, Switzerland, on the Lake Thun.
It is a place where in one moment we move in the world of Rivendel - the seat of the Elves from the novel "The Lord of the Ring", J.R.R. Tolkien. Author of the novel visited the site during his visit in 1911. The name of the cave is associated with the person of an English missionary who, according to the legend, defeated the dragon inhabited the cave.
To the cave leads a winding road from which we can admire the beautiful panorama of the Lake Thun. The cave has 14 km long. Unfortunately for visitors it is available only 1 km away. The route leads through the labyrinth of limestone rock that lit up, take amazing colors. It is possible hear the sound of waterfalls, which grows with each step. After each turn there are new attractions - stalagmites, stalactites, waterfalls, caves, ponds, and even vegetation. In the ponds there is a perfect stillness, sometimes only disturbed by a falling drop of water. The water is so clear, that it is sometimes difficult to assess where is the real world and where is its reflection. The atmosphere is incredible, when the suddenly go out lamps illuminating the interior. In the darkness, deprived of one sense completely different feel sounds and smell of the interior of the earth.
St. Beatus Caves, a place often overlooked in the guidebooks to get there from the town of Interlaken, you should follow the road to the town of Thun, which leads north side of the lake. The caves are located next to the town of Beatenberg. From the Interlaken West Banhof goes a bus No. 21. We leave the bus on the station Beatushöhlen.
